SCOPE OF POSITION

This position will demonstrate competency in the care of the (circle all that apply): Neonate, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric patient population .
The Occupational Therapist (OT) has the responsibility to admit, evaluate, develop the plan of treatment and revise if necessary, prepare progress reports, and discharge planning of patients according to physician orders. The OT works in conjunction with other team professionals, patients and their families to provide patient care and education as well as participates in in-services programs. The OT will supervise COTAs and may be asked to assist with orientation/training of new employees and students.
The OT should have the ability to provide services to pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients; must be able to assess and interpret data about patient's age-specific needs and provide appropriate care to patient group.
The OT will also carry out other departmental duties as assigned. The OT must have the ability to work cooperatively with physicians, other staff members, patients and their families with dignity, courtesy, and respect. The OT must show initiative and good judgment, be outgoing and flexible to adjust to all possible situations and have flexibility in hours to meet the needs of HomeCare and Hospice patients and to participate in weekend rotations as needed. The OT must pay close attention to detail and provide superior levels of care. The OT should be committed to continuing education, upgrading his/her skills, and be willing to cross train in other areas as necessary.
This position may be required to cross train within the agency. Responsibilities in secondary position may require access to medical records and other computer access exceeding routine computer usage. Access to patient information may be necessary to fulfill the requirements of this role; therefore, adherence to MSHA privacy and security policies and practices is a must.



 

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.

Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the Manager of Therapy Services and supervises the COTAs who are giving care to the patients assigned to the OT. May supervise CNAs when skilled nurses are not involved in patient's plan of care.

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Must carry current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the appropriate state. Must be certified by National Certification Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT). One to three years' experience in health care setting is preferred. Membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association is desirable but not mandatory. Must have knowledge of theory, techniques and practices of the occupational therapy profession as well as of the use, care and maintenance of professional Occupational Therapy equipment. Must successfully complete agency orientation. Must have dependable transportation. Must carry current personal collision and liability insurance on any vehicle driven. Must maintain current driver's license in the appropriate state. Must possess and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
